WHAT MAKES US DIFFERENT?

Capstone Psychology was created with a simple idea: to make therapy feel a little less clinical and a lot more human.

After years of working within someone else’s vision, I felt ready to create a space of my own — one that reflected not only how I believe therapy should feel for clients, but also how I wanted to feel doing this work. Warm. Comfortable. Thoughtful. A place where clients can settle in, and where clinicians can feel at ease and able to do the work they love.

The name Capstone has personal meaning for me. A capstone is the finishing piece that brings a structure together, and I was drawn to the idea that the life we build is shaped by everything that has come before — our experiences, relationships, losses, and growth.

For me, the name is also connected to the loss of my brother, an experience that deeply changed my life. Creating Capstone was, in part, a way of making something meaningful from that loss — something that could help others and allow something beautiful to grow from pain.

Today, Capstone is a shared home for independent clinicians who care deeply about what they do and for clients looking for a different kind of therapy space — one that feels grounded, welcoming, and genuinely human.

More than anything, I wanted Capstone to be a place where people can feel comfortable being themselves — a place where genuine connection can happen.

Tracy Cross

Registered Psychologist, Founder, Capstone Psychology

I work with teens and adults navigating trauma, anxiety, burnout, difficult life experiences, and patterns that can leave them feeling stuck, disconnected, or out of alignment with what matters to them.

My approach is warm, direct, collaborative, and human. I believe therapy can hold both depth and humour — there is room to take the hard things seriously without every session feeling heavy. I want clients to feel comfortable enough to be honest, understood without judgment, and supported in making sense of what they have been through and what they want to change.

Much of my work has focused on trauma and sexual violence. That experience has taught me how deeply difficult experiences can affect not only how we think and feel, but also how we experience safety in our bodies, relationships, and everyday lives. Because of that, I often incorporate somatic awareness and body-based approaches alongside Emotion-Focused Therapy, Internal Family Systems, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, attachment-focused, and experiential work.

I also work with people who find themselves repeating patterns that are no longer working for them or no longer fit the life they want to be living. Therapy may involve slowing things down to understand where those patterns came from, while also building practical ways to respond differently through boundaries, emotional regulation, values, relationships, and greater trust in yourself.

My goal is not to tell people who they should be, but to help them better understand themselves and move toward a life that feels more aligned with who they are and what matters to them.

Outside of therapy, I value my family, connection, time outdoors, experiencing new things, and making the most of the life I have.
